In the Legion we have a unique tradition that we do once a year: Kings! Every Epiphany, a few LCs dress up as kings and tell jokes about the community. At the same time, a few others prepare some videos making fun of things that happen in the house.
For instance, this year a major theme was our tendency to have undercooked eggs and creating a line at the microwave during breakfast. Another thing that appeared this year was a funny picture of me. Just after ordinations, we were all waiting at the papal audience; I noticed a brother with a camera was pointing it at me, so I made a face at him.
I know you want to see it. Sorry. It turned out rather embarrassing. I don’t mind if the whole community saw it, but I’m not posting it online. Many of the videos are like that so we aren’t posting them for general distribution.
One thing that strikes me in this celebration is charity. It’s the one time of the year, you can make fun of someone without getting a look from the rest of the community but the videos still tend to avoid personal attacks. They tend to be about funny thinks that nobody really wanted or that just happened like my funny face.
as a legionary I can say that I experienced a lot of fun, joy and family charity during the King’s Celebration. But also I learned more about the feast of the Epiphany itself. Before entenering the seminary I never really appreciated this liturgical celebration (probably it was my fault…), it was a normal Sunday Mass, and now with the fun of the Kings, the presents, the jokes, etc I became more aware about the deep meaning of the visit and adoration of the Magi to the Newborn King.
God bless!
