Living

A fall, a thud, a cold-reasoned bang,
One woman gone, one soul’s embrace.
Now she from whom pure life once sprang,
A pallid body wrapped in lace.

The world in silent stillness lay;
They round the bend, the sirens blare;
With hope she holds white death at bay,
Not dark but blinded by the glare.

Her husband reaches out his hand,
And kisses her cheek, stony cold;
He fears she’s in the other land;
A tear runs down his eyes yet bold.

The life she lived was full of joy,
A soul untainted in this life,
A wonder-mom, three girls, a boy,
By all known as the kindest wife.

And now mere inches on this side,
A call rings out, her soul to save,
A thousand prayers for her collide
Each silent yet they fill the nave.

The brink was reached and she pulled back,
Her time ’twas not – life still to live.
True peace where she nothing does lack,
Her life for us as from a sieve.

Living for us not for herself,
The choice of mom midst peace or strife;
Like Christ who gave us his own self,
For goodness, she received new life.

She’s living, living such a life.
