A holy mom

“I cannot forget my mother. She was usually very busy all day long. But when sunset drew near, it was her custom to hurry with her tasks in order to be ready to receive my father. At the time we did not understand, and we would smile and even joke a little about it. Today I cannot help but call to mind that great delicacy of love that she had for him. No matter what happened, she was always prepared, with a smile on her lips, to welcome him.”  — Blessed Mother Teresa

My dad woke up at 4 AM to drive into Detroit to work at Ford and he arrived back for our 530 PM dinner every night. My mom made his arrival a very important moment for our household. The grass was always cut, the driveway was shoveled, the meal was hot and ready on time, and the kids and my mom were all there ready to greet dad after a long day. I believe he really looked forward to walking in the front door, and we looked forward to seeing him…these were special days!
