A HEART THAT GIVES

Yesterday I went to visit a friend who had open-heart surgery. The heart is such a small organ, but so important to our survival. It made me think.

The human heart is good by nature, but the world tries to get it dirty with all type of pleasures. We try to “fill it” with all sort of things and the dirtier, fuller, and heavier it gets, the grumpier, grouchier, and stingier we get. Weird, right?

As frequent readers may know by now –- I’m a missionary and I discovered the secret to make our hearts lighter, happier and freer!

WE NEED TO GIVE. And I don’t mean write a check (that might be good, too). We need to give ourselves — to get out of our comfort zone and share our time, talents, faith, and our lives.
After two weeks in Haiti and 10 days in the Mountains of Puebla, Mexico, I discovered that no matter  the state” of our heart, whether it is a stone heart, a grumpy, selfish, stingy, materialistic, superficial, or a proud heart…or like the simple people with simple heart:, poor, lonely, tired, suffering…All of us are capable of GIVING THE BEST, and pulling out from our hearts emotions, sentiments, strength, love, that we didn’t even know we had.

GIVING draws the best out of us. And we all have that “best” hidden somewhere in us. We just have to USE OUR HEARTS in the right way and we will be amazed by how much lighter, happier and freer we will be.
