I see God

I’m in Canmore, Alberta, this week for meetings. Sometimes working for the Movement has its benefits.

In some ways, Canmore (an hour outside Calgary) is similar to where I live in the Chicago suburbs.

Both have scenic vistas. My neighborhood has the Morton Arboretum, with interesting trees. Canmore has the Canadian Rockies with snow-capped mountains.

In my yard, we constantly are dealing with pesky chipmunks. Canmore has to account for herds of elk wandering about the neighborhoods.

We have a hill when the kids can sled in the winter. Canmore has the Nordic Centre, where people train for the Olympics.

See…the two places are much alike – just a matter of degree. And both places really do have friendly people and yummy food.

I believe I can see God’s work wherever I look. Sometimes it is difficult when driving through Illinois on a flat expressway surrounded by field of soybeans and corn. But God is there, working through farmers to feed the world.

Looking out on snow-capped peaks backed by wispy clouds and blue sky, it is easy to see God’s hand. Canadians believe this is a special place and they are right. I’m grateful for their hospitality and allowing me to share the view.
