Silent Love

“What we need most in order to make progress is to be silent before this great God with our appetite and with our tongue, for the language he best hears is silent love.”

St John of the Cross, OCD

I recently had the privilege of administering Anointing of the Sick to an elderly lady in the hospital the night before her hip surgery. As I walked into her room, her face lit up with a big smile and she welcomed me with kind words. The nurse had just given her a shot to calm her nausea, and you would never had known she was feeling nauseous or that she had just broken her hip. She was a selfless angel, full of gratitude and her conversation was uplifting and edifying. Before leaving she said with a smile, “You know, Fr. Michael, I just can’t understand how people can go through life without Faith…it is so comforting!” (She made it through the operation just fine and is doing well!)
