Blessed are the merciful

“Blessed are the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them.”   (Mt 5: 7)

One of our neighborhood traditions in the winter was to organize street hockey games on our driveway.  We opened up the garage door and put masking tape on the wall for one goal and  two cones on the other end of the driveway for the other goal.  Two days after our dad had just painted the wall, we played as usual on a slushy driveway and within 20 minutes the wall was covered with muddy tennis ball stains.  My dad arrived home from work at this moment and within seconds he realized the damage.  Although he was not happy, he looked at my brothers and I and calmly said, “Gentlemen, take a good look at that wall.   This wall was just painted 2 days ago!  Please get some moist rags right now and gently wipe off those marks.”  Very impressive reaction after a long day at work!
