November 11 marked my first 3 months of living in Madrid. Has it gone fast or slow? Have I liked it or has it been hard? Umm…good questions. Maybe it’d be easier to put it in some highs and lows.
Low: Frustration and exhaustion of being immersed in a new language.
High: The adventure of learning something new and feeling like it´s actually working little by little.
Low: Feeling a little like the rug got pulled out from under me.
High: Looking under the rug…to the beauty of standing on Him who is my Rock.
Low: Getting to know new people. (Takes a lot to invest in so many new relationships.)
High: Getting to know new people. (The huge gift of new sisters and friendships!)
Low: The uncomfortable new-kid feeling at school, in apostolate, in community–wait, I think that’s pretty much everywhere…
High: Learning A LOT about myself from being in new experiences and situations!!
Low: Missing pancakes for breakfast.
High: Gazpacho (yes, I actually like it), paella, and awesome fruit and bread.
Low: Missing the comfort zone of my own country and culture: values, ways of doing things, points of view, traditions…
High: Truly being enriched by the values and points of view from a lot of different cultures…not to mention living in one…
Low: Realizing it´s only been 3 months. (Feels like a lot longer in some ways, and I´m ready to be done with this whole transition thing, which I know has just started…)
High: Realizing it´s only been 3 months. (Seeing how much I myself, and us as a community, have grown in just 3 months, knowing that God has much more in store day by day.)
To be continued!
