Ladies Night Out

Earlier this month, I got to spend some quality time with my daughter attending a wonderful event honoring “the true beauty of women.”

When I heard about the “Beauty and Bubbles” event being sponsored by two of my favorite local organizations for women, Choices Detroit and Good Girl Comeback, taking place at the elegant Neiman Marcus store in the Somerset Collection Mall in Troy, Michigan, I wistfully thought about attending, even though social events like this are not something I regularly, if at all, get to attend.

Not only was the event a fundraiser to support the organizations’ upcoming mission trips to Haiti, as well as for the underprivileged in Detroit, at the same time guests would get to enjoy elegant refreshments and selected spa services like manicures and mini facials!

I told myself I would ask my oldest daughter Sarah, who I rarely get to spend time with, to go with me. If she said no, which was likely because of her busy schedule – she works full time and takes college classes — I won’t think another thing about it. But providentially, she gave me an enthusiastic yes when I asked. (I gave a little look to the Man upstairs and said a joyful “Thank You!” for the early Mother’s Day gift.)

So my daughter and I attended this lovely evening in early May. Sarah got her nails done and had a little cosmetic make over. I received a wonderful spa treatment for my hands, and also enjoyed some yummy champagne while chatting with other guests. (Lord, I am truly thankful for that time we spent together.)

I was impressed to learn afterward that about 200 women attended, and the event was huge success! One of the organizers, Ann-Marie Neme, told me the funds raised will make available “vital material resources to countless individuals in both the inner city of Detroit and Haiti.”

“Plans are already underway to organize and execute summer camps and support to the youth in these cities,” she said.

May God richly bless these efforts.

Choices Detroit – Women Discovering What Matters is a nonprofit educational and charitable organization that provides resources to women.
