Early mornings

I have always felt disturbed by waking up with a “5” on the face of the clock. (If anyone reading this works night shift or wakes up with a “4” to face, please forgive my complaint.)

But there is also something spiritually refreshing and intimate about it. This is what I experienced this morning when I woke up and stepped outside:

• a few stars still hanging out in the pale-blue sky

• the sun just starting to show its color on the horizon

• a very still and quiet neighborhood, except for the sound of crickets

• a gentle and cool breeze, just enough for me to breathe in God’s message of the gift of a new day

And I thought to myself: “I don’t know what the rest of the neighborhood is doing, but here I am, in the wee hours of the morning, awake so I can praise God and spend an hour with Him before a busy day. I love my life!”

What if I had slept in? I would have missed this! What if I hadn’t taken the time to go outside and “take it all in”? I would have missed an opportunity to praise Him for His gifts!

THANK YOU, LORD, FOR A NEW DAY! AND THANK YOU FOR EARLY MORNINGS WITH YOU!
