Come Sweet Jesus

An Advent Reflection

My sweet Jesus, come and do not delay.

Come as a baby which I can hold in my arms,

Yet also as the God who carries me.

Come quickly Infant King,

For I long for the indescribable peace and joy

Which accompanies the birth of the Prince of Peace.

Come living Water which quenches my thirst,

Come living Word which soothes my aching heart.

Come and draw me to yourself,

so that I may hold you and you may hold me,

and so I may be yours forever.

If you come hidden, in the darkness of the night,

I will meet you there.

Wherever you go, I will follow

As a child follows the footsteps of her father.

When you rest your head,

I will rest my head on your heart

And let your heartbeats lull me into tranquil sleep.

Come sweet Jesus, light of the world,

Increase my darkness

If it means that your light may shine brighter there.

Come and may your love

Drown every sorrow and fear

Trapped deep inside the human heart.

Bring your peace into our chaos,

Turn our water into wine.

Raise our weak nature and our wounded dignity.

Infuse our despair with your unfailing hope.

Increase our faith, and open our eyes

To see the wonders which you have wrought

In every moment of our lives.

Lead us, poor, lost souls,

To true happiness and our heavenly home.

Come sweet Jesus, gentle Savior,

God Made Man, Infant King.

Come and do not delay!
