Strawberry Jam

I get to breakfast a little before the community. The jam containers lie in the middle of the table. Today, amidst the dozen peach jams, there is one strawberry jam. I grab it and some fresh bread.

At snack, a similar thing happens: we have been donated these delectable dark chocolates with a hint of orange, and I pop 3 or 4 down the hatch. I accompany them with a good dose of hot chocolate and a few cookies.

Life seems good. I am definitely enjoying the good things the Lord provides. But isn’t Lent supposed to be a time of sacrifice. It is hard to make even little sacrifices. Eating the peach jam, the old bread, or skipping chocolates at snack will not harm me and barely even be a sacrifice yet I don’t do it. How much it would cost.

My Lenten resolutions for this year are a little too personal to be posting online, but I still should be offering up little sacrifices: a Legionary should never get up from the table without having made some small sacrifice. They may seem small but when they are difficult and made out of love, I think they can really help others. Tomorrow, just butter on my toast.
