We meet no ordinary people in our lives

“We meet no ordinary people in our lives.”

― C.S. Lewis

I recently had breakfast with a businessman in DC and while waiting in the lobby, I was deeply impressed by the faith of the receptionist. At one point she told me, “Fr. Michael, I read the Bible everyday and I simply cannot imagine going through a single day without Jesus really close by my side. He is everything to me. He is my absolute best friend and He fills me with peace and strength…he is my greatest gift.” My clerical collar certainly opens up hearts and minds to hear more of these conversations, but I believe that behind every person, lies a good heart. We need to try to discover this inner beauty, bring out the best of people, and learn from them.
