General Director’s Day with the General Director

Last Sunday was General Director’s Day, which we always celebrate on the Sunday before Christ the King. This year, God had a special gift for me. Mass was planned for before dinner rather than early morning but otherwise the day began like any other day. About mid-morning one brother stopped me. He seemed excited. Then he told me that we were supposed to go over and say hello to Fr Álvaro before lunch.

One Legionary had made a goofy little video of our group asking everybody five questions and then mixing up our responses. Fr Álvaro wanted all of us there when he saw it.

As we got there, he greeted each of us and reminded us that the feast was for the position not the person. I, for one, already knew that but it is good to hear we all agree. I gave him a small Padre Pio prayer card with Relic (I will have to write soon about where that came from).

Then we watched the video which I think just about everyone else came out better than I.

Later on, Father Álvaro was the principle celebrant for the Mass. Again the homilist mentioned that the celebration is about the position not the person, to which Fr Álvaro gave a big nod. We had dinner with Fr Álvaro too but nothing stood out to mention.

About Fr Matthew P. Schneider, LC

In 2001, I traveled from Calgary, Canada to join the Legion. Since then I’ve been all over North America and spent some time in Rome. I currently reside in Washington doing a bunch of writing and taking care of the community while studying my Licentiate in Theology (between Masters and Doctorate). I’m most well-known on Instagram and Twitter where I have about 6,500 and 40,000 followers respectively.
