Happy Husband’s Day? Happy Wive’s Day?

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother (and be joined to his wife), and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh.” (Mk 10: 7,8)

Every mall and shop in America are currently selling something for Father’s Day, and like Mother’s day, I do believe that “dads” and “moms” should be acknowledged for their generous and selfless service.  But in speaking to so many “mother’s clubs” and groups of “dads”, I tell them again and again that what your kids most need from you is a great marriage.  This is what gave me stability and peace as a kid- my mom and dad really loved each other and they made it work!  The best dads are the best husbands!  The best moms are the best wives!  (And obviously this is totally impossible without the help of God’s grace through the Sacraments).  Recently, a “mom” told me that she will be starting a “Good Wives Club” and she invited me to speak to them in the Fall on how to improve their marriages.  I can’t wait!
