I do not act as I mean to…

“I do not understand my behavior; I do not act as I mean to, but I do things that I hate.” Romans 7:15

I spent 9 years of my childhood caddying at Forest Lake Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, MI.  This quote from St. Paul certainly comes into play on the golf course.  Although for the most part, golfers do have self control and solid etiquette, occasionally they simply break down.  One man broke every club over his knees after getting scoring an eleven on a par 3 and vowed never to play again…he was back a week later with a new set of clubs.  Another golfer asked me to climb a tree to retrieve his driver; and for $25, I was happy to help.  Another golfer spun 3 times on the green and hurled his putter into an elevated bird house after a missing a key putt on the 6th hole.  The language could have been better as well.  We all make mistakes, we all do things impulsively that we later regret…the important thing is to ask for forgiveness (and go to Confession) and get back up.
