I remember after September 11, many people asked: Where was God? And in all my travels to third- world countries on missionary work, very often I also have the temptation to ask: Where’s God in the mist of so much suffering?
When you see pornography taking over media or a secular world dominating culture, we can ask ourselves: Where’s God? What’s going on?
Perhaps we must become blind in order to see God’s presence and love in the world. I think the old blind man Bartimaeous give us the example of what’s there to do, to recover sight and fight the good fight to make His Kingdom of peace, love and justice reign! We just need to act like Bartimaeous, and scream as loud as we can: “Lord…I want to see” (Luke 18:41).
I want to see a better world, a world where there’s harmony and peace, a world where there’s joy and love, a world where happiness and grace overtake the darkness of sin and lowliness. At times it is easy to remain blind; it requires less effort to just go along. But we don’t know what we are missing when the lights are one! Let’s take a chance and have the courage to fall on our knees and ask Jesus to rescue us from our wrongdoing, from being held “hostage” and scream loud: “Lord I want to see.”
