One cup of water

Here in Haiti, the spiritual world lives. The Our Father: give us this day our daily bread; The Hail Mary: pray for us sinners in the hour of our death; today’s gospel: “Whoever gives a cup of water to these little ones will be rewarded.”

Today, I witnessed this gospel come to life.

After a two-hour soccer game, in 100-degree weather, with the kids of the Arc Tent City, we were passing out bags of cold water. We had some extras, so we gave them to girls that were playing nearby. When OI passed a bag to a 5-year-old girl, she immediately opened it, but to me surprise she gave it to her baby sister who was sitting beside he, without taking a sip for herself!

I understood why Christ said you have to be like small children to enter heaven. They have pure, simple hearts and their love is so generous and real.

So my prayer today: Jesus, make my heart more like them!
