No one heals himself by wounding another

No one heals himself by wounding another.

– Saint Ambrose

More and more parents are telling me about an increase of bullying among kids. Girls who exclude certain girls from a party or event (even though this girl might be a part of this particular group of friends), boys who make fun of a physical deficiency in another boy, the infamous “silent treatment”, “cyber” bullying, gossip or rumors, etc… Much fortitude, wisdom and prudence is needed and there is not always a great solution. In general, whether they are ones being bullied or are witnesses of bullying, I feel they need to personally confront these bullies on their behavior in a simple and direct way, one on one, and definitely not participate in the effort; this is leadership! (Sometimes, the one being bullied also needs to correct or change his or her behavior as well…they might be really annoying the class).
