“As a good gardener works from morning till night to destroy the weeds in his garden and fill it with flowers, so let us work every day to destroy the blemishes of our soul and adorn it with virtues.” (St. John Vianney)
The garden pictured is like the soul of a saint, filled with colorful and shining virtues, like purity, charity, humility, prudence, temperance, fortitude, etc… Holiness inspires! Holiness is beautiful! With daily prayer, regular Confession and Mass, devotion to Mary and Sacred Scripture…a virtuous life is so much easier! St. Paul wrote, “I am who I am through the grace of God.” Not, “I am who I am because I worked really hard and applied myself.” Sure, hard work is necessary but unless it is backed by a strong prayer life and God’s grace, it could all be vanity and smoke in the air.
