Why prayer and the Sacraments?

“The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the Cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became man for no other purpose.” (CS Lewis, Mere Christianity).

Why do I strongly encourage Mass every Sunday (if not everyday), regular Confession, daily rosary, Scripture based meditation…why? Why dedicate this time and effort to prayer and the Sacraments? “The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs.” This is what it’s all about. It’s about allowing Christ to transform your heart and mind so that you can better reflect his love in the daily grind. This is what brings peace and fulfillment now and in eternal life. This is what really matters, but a selfless life will not happen without God’s help.
