In adversity, we know our friends.

“In prosperity, our friends know us. In adversity, we know our friends” ― G.K. Chesterton

During my six years of studying in Rome, occasionally I would get a little sick and have to miss a few days of classes. Seminarians would stop by to bring me breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed (along with a pot of hot tea and a bottle of honey) and there was one seminarian who would stop by to slip a stack of photo copied notes under my door from the classes that I missed. Later, he would ask if there was anything that I did not understand and patiently help me to grasp the concepts. These little acts of kindness meant a lot, and I very grateful even today for all those acts of service.
