Hello! We had another wonderful day, with a deepening sense of joy and gratitude. The morning and early afternoon were as usual, interrupted by some rain, which today was much more “mild”. We got to show the Dzib brothers the rappelling and zip-lining equipment that we were able to bring thanks to many of you, and their gratitude and humility were amazing; they’ve been working for years, trying many different avenues for their project, without finding a way to go forward, and now they are able to see some advancements. Our Lord is “using” us to help them move forward, and “using” them to teach us what community and Christianity mean; a blessed interchange to say the least.
In the evening we had a “slight” change: we threw a party to thank our hosts (all the townspeople!) at Nuevo Durango! We announced it the day before and the kids and some women helped us spread the word. Mass was very well attended and afterwards we had a community dinner, some people brought a dish to share and we brought pizzas; even though there was a lot of food, it flew! Everyone who was offered seconds or thirds gladly accepted. After dinner we had a bazaar in which we “sold” (for $50 cents CAD) any item (and only one item in the first round, so everyone had a chance) that they wanted to take: school supplies, tools, kitchenware, shoes, etc. We were able to share these goods with them because many back home shared them with us. Seeing their simplicity and their joy was overwhelming for us.
Our night sharing was very inspiring as it has been every night, please make sure you asked your loved ones about their “words for the day” when they are back home. We still have a lot of work to get done in our project in the next two days, please keep us in your prayers.
