It´s a weekday just like the other four, but Monday gets an especially bad rap. Waking up takes longer, the traffic seems worse, and classes seem slower. However, there are a few things that brighten my Monday mornings. Like scrambled eggs. Everything is just better when there´s scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Something else brightened my morning last Monday. As I walked into our very full 9:00 am Introduction to Christianity class, one of my seminarian classmates´ usual jeans and sneakers had been replaced by a crisp, white habit.
It´s not the first time a change like that has happened over the weekend. On Friday a deacon comes to school, and on Monday a newly ordained priest is walking up the stairs. For me, moments like that are some of the most joyful realities of the San Dámaso campus.
Some days, I get used to who my classmates and professors are. Sometimes it feels like I´m just sitting in a classroom with 70 other college students…oh yeah, because I am. Other times, like those memorable Mondays, I´m struck by the beauty I´m in the middle of. I rejoice with so many other consecrated souls who have found the Love of their life and who are following Him wholeheartedly. I´m inspired by mothers, fathers, and lay young people who are living their faith authentically. I´m filled with hope at witnessing responses of love to God´s fidelity.
