Haiti Mission Update — Day 1

Greetings from Port-au-Prince! Fr. Thomas Murphy, LC and I have been here for a week; we got reinforcements this morning and got to visit the Children’s Home. Jana Crea, another mission leader, flew in at midday and met our group at the airport. One of the missionaries shared that she was crying on the way here, being very moved even before starting! It took a while to leave the airport, but finally everyone, after more than 16 hours traveling arrived to the Guest House. Just driving here was quite an experience since really, there are no traffic rules (nor stoplights) in Haiti. We are also very happy with the warm weather.

After settling down in our rooms, we had supper and then an intro talk about how Mission Youth does missions and our core values (encounter, service, respect, openness, evangelization, joy). We ended the evening with Mass and our missionary send-off, in which Father gave us a special blessing and our missionary cross. With a lot of anticipation for our first day at the Home of the Dying tomorrow.
