The week has gone by so fast, yet, we have so many experiences in our hearts!
Today was our last day, we spent it at the Home of the Dying, a hospice that the Missionaries of Charity have for sick persons. There they take care of around 150 men and women; some of them recover and go back to their homes, and some of them die. The guys played cards and sang with the men; the girls gave massages, painted the nails, and did bracelets with the women. In the afternoon we got to pray the Stations of the Cross with the community and throughout the day we were touched again by the beautiful and heroic service of the Missionaries of Charity.
At night each one shared his or her favorite experience and a word (or phrase) that would summarize the mission. Some of the words were: relationships, fulfillment, gratitude, the value of small things, community, trust, joy, “giving time”… it was beautiful to hear each of them and see how the mission has touched them deeply…. Everyone leaves having received much more than they gave.
Tomorrow morning we’ll have Mass at 7:00 am, a quick breakfast and then I’ll drop them off at the airport. Fr. Thomas and I stay to receive another Canadian group that comes in tomorrow afternoon. It’s been great to share with you these days, please keep us in your prayers; it’s a busy semester for Mission Youth!
