My first day in Poland was full of excitement. The airplane to Warsaw was delayed a few hours. That was bad because I was supposed to take a train to Krakow. I was nervous at first, but started praying and put the situation in the hands of the Blessed Mother. I arrived in Warsaw, and the Lord put different people in just the right places to help me get to the train station as fast as possible. Maybe they were angels. With their guidance I made the train a few seconds before it started moving.
After a restoring night of sleep, I had my first training session in the morning. The training takes place at the University where Saint John Paul II studied as a young man. There we received lessons from a professional interpreter from whom I learned so much.
I had a free afternoon, so I took advantage of the time to see the city. Krakow is a gorgeous town; everything is clean and well kept. The architecture also is beautiful and unique with its Slavic touch. There are WYD volunteers and pilgrims everywhere. They took over the city with their joy and excitement.
I got the chance to visit the Divine Mercy Shrine, where Saint Faustina Kowalska lived. There she had the visions of Jesus and wrote her famous diary, “Divine Mercy in my Soul.” It is such a place of peace and faith.
I spent a good time in prayer, asking God for his mercy on our world. Please, join me in prayer as we move forward on this World Youth Day! May many young men and women experience the merciful heart of Jesus during these days.
