EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the sixth in a series of nine Eucharistic poems by Br. Dain, leading up to Corpus Christi. We hope they will be an inspiration for your prayer and reflection.
Silent Lover, Gentle Host,
Why do you choose this way?
Infinite love you show to men,
Yet not a word you say.
Creator Lord, Eternal God,
Before we came to be,
You knew our face and called our name
And gave us light to see.
Silent Lover, Gentle Host,
You guide us as we grow.
Your take our little hand in yours,
The narrow way you show.
Gracious giver of every gift:
Freedom, Family, Friends,
Vocation and those graces that
Your endless mercy sends.
Silent Lover, Gentle Host,
You came down from above.
Thirty-three years you lived on earth
To show us all your love.
Paschal Lamb, Victim Dear,
Your Passion and your Death.
In Finem is your love for us
Until your dying breath.
Silent Lover, Gentle Host,
Could you have given more?
Yet you in Eucharist remain
That we may all adore.
Silent Lover, Gentle Host,
‘Til end of time you stay
With us behind those little doors
To comfort day by day.
Love unknown, ineffable Love,
Oh Sacrament Divine,
Infinite love, you humble seek
In silence to confine.
Were it I, I’d shout it out,
Yet this is not God’s way.
Silent Lover, Gentle Host,
Not a word you say.
