Since 1973, pro-life patriots have gathered in our nation’s capital to proclaim the dignity of human life.
In recent years, small marches have sprung up in cities around the country.
It is easy, in light of past experience, to predict how the march will go:
• Several hundred thousand people will march in a spirit of faith, joy and peace.
• A few nasty counter-demonstrators will shout obscenities and taunt the decent folk to violence; it won’t work.
• The major media will pretty much ignore the event.
• Countless lives will be saved.
You might be surprised by that last point, but I believe in with all my heart.
Millions have died in “legal” abortions since the egregious Supreme Court ruling of 1973. But the peaceful marchers, the loving souls who pray at abortion clinics and the many who pray in their homes and hearts have reversed the decisions of so many women to have an abortion. Thus, I prefer to remember not only how many have been killed but how many have been saved.
Years from now, those who marched for life will be compared to the freedom riders who protested racial segregation. Those who promote abortion today will be compared to the bigots who justified “whites only” schools, lunch counters and busses.
It is about time for everyone to get on the right side of history. Thursday might be the day.
