Marriage tip: Be humble!

“Humility is the safeguard of chastity. In the matter of purity, there is no greater danger than not fearing the danger. For my part, when I find a man secure of himself and without fear, I give him up for lost. I am less alarmed for one who is tempted and who resists by avoiding the occasions, than for one who is not tempted and is not careful to avoid occasions. When a person puts himself in an occasion, saying, I shall not fall, it is an almost infallible sign that he will fall, and with great injury to his soul.” — Saint Philip Neri

When you notice yourself looking up old high school or college lovers on Facebook, when your eyes start to wander the room at social events, when you allow negativity towards your spouse to penetrate and dominate your brain waves, when you start having a coffee or meal with a guy or girl “friend” on a regular basis…affairs do not just “happen.” It takes real effort, real love, and especially real prayer on both sides for a marriage to endure and grow in holiness. The devil is always working and if you rely too much on yourself and not enough on Christ, it is generally a question of time. It took “3” to get married, and it definitely takes “3” to stay married…allow our Blessed Mother and Christ to help you! Be humble!!
