Talking to an ordinary saint

We arrived at the Children’s Home at 9:00 am as usual. To our surprise Sr Franceso MC was seated outside the convent near the containers of food. She immediately greeted us and as always she said: “Thank you for coming to Haiti”.

Sister has been in Haiti since Bl. Mother Teresa opened the first house in 1981. Sr Franceso is a “living saint.” Even though her medical tests show a very active and aggressive cancer, there are no symptoms in her or her body. She used to be in India and was in charge of giving the tours of their homes to high dignitaries. She met Princes Diana, Ronald Reagan and many more famous people. But for her, they are all the same, just people that she serves.

Today she was sick, with fever and an achy body, but as she saw us, she went out of herself and started talking to us. Few words but with a very profound content: ” A loving touch will never be forgotten; the love that you give today, no one else can give ; remember, this is not our home, heaven is, our life here is very simple, give love, that’s the commandment and that’s what you came here to do, so go and hug some babies”!

Never better than today to say: Amen Sister!
