This past year I have been attending Mater Ecclesiae College, a small three-building campus with about 40 students in the tiny town of Greenville, Rhode Island. However, the size and population of the place have no correlation whatsoever to the immense graces I’ve received and the important lessons I’ve learned here while in my initial discernment stage with the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi.
As my first year of formation comes to a close, and I begin to anticipate a summer packed with missions, prayer, formative and spiritual courses, and, of course, a few days of relaxation on the beach and in the mountains, my heart is overwhelmed by the incredible love of God that I have had the grace to experience here in the smallest state in the union. Therefore, I’d like to take this opportunity, as the school year comes to a close, to share with you a taste of the work God has been doing in my soul over the last 10 months.
This year has certainly been one of adventure, as our class is blazing the trail for the new five-year formation program at MEC. It has been a year of prayer, as we uncover the riches of participating in lectio divina and having an hour of meditation to begin each day. It has been a year of self knowledge, as each of the members of our class discovers who she is in the eyes of God. It has been a year of both conflict yet progressive closeness, as we integrate the four countries and 12 very different personalities represented in our class. Above all it has been a year of falling in love with the person of Jesus Christ, whom we want above all to be our best friend, our peace, our king, and our joy.
I’ve come to realize that the more I study and pray and come to know Christ, the more I see how much I still don’t know about him! That means I still have the rest of my life to continue asking Christ: “Who are you? Who am I? What do you want of me? For what purpose did you create me? What is my mission and my destiny? How are you going to fulfill the deepest desires of my heart?” As I write this, my heartbeat quickens with excitement; maybe this first year of discernment is over, but the true adventure has just begun!
