This week the gospel tells us the story of Peter after Christ died. Interiorly he is disturbed. He denied Christ not once, but three times. He fled and left His Lord alone in the most important moment of His life. All of the disciples are confused. But he should be the “rock,” the leader of them all… but it seems that the “dark cloud” above him is getting bigger and bigger. He had it! “I’m going fishing” he said. “I’ve had it I’m out of here”.
A friend of mine helped me to see this story from another angle. Maybe Peter was overwhelmed with all of it, but he needed to go fishing to that lake not to run away but to go back where IT ALL BEGAN. The place where he found His friend, His Lord, His savior, His redeemer. That place where he found the meaning of his life. Where he found the inner peace that now he was longing for.
We all have those moments of “I’m going fishing,” but we also have that “lake” where everything began. We need to go there constantly to rekindle the spark of life, the first love, and the enthusiasm.
Let us go back fishing in this Easter Season and rejoice because MY LORD IS ALIVE.
