From dad to daughter

Dear Adrienne,

I’m afraid my generation is going to leave your generation quite a mess to clean up.

Of course, I’m talking about Tuesday’s election.  We baby boomers are key to the results, directly by how we voted, indirectly by failing to educate your generation about the values this country is founded on.

There is so much about our current culture and politics that I’m at a loss to explain to you (or myself, for that matter):

·         We kill more than a million unborn babies each year in the United States – because they are inconvenient.

·         We just re-elected the most pro-abortion President in history.  He pledges his undying support to Planned Parenthood, which could only be considered a health organization if we believe babies are an infectious disease needing removal.

·         The majority of Catholics voted for candidates who support moral non-negotiables:  abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, euthanasia, human cloning, gay marriage.

·         The government is forcing religious organizations to fund “medical” procedures we find abhorrent.

·         More than 23 million workers need a job.

·         We are cutting defense and increasing entitlements.

·         Half our people pay no federal taxes.

·         Half our people have a major financial dependence on the government.

·         Half the babies who are born are to unmarried parents.

·         Our public schools have become an international embarrassment.

Reading all of this, you might get a bit discouraged.  But there is good that I believe will come from all of this.  People of faith will unite with courage to stand for the truth.

We didn’t get into this mess overnight and we won’t fix it in a flash.  In fact, I expect you will be working on these issues long after I have passed on.  But until then, I’ll stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you as people of faith do all they can to bring us back to a nation under God.

Love…Dad
