Gracious and friendly

“‘When I am about to talk with anybody,’ said a young village girl, ‘I picture to myself Jesus Christ and how gracious and friendly He was to everyone.'” (St. John Vianney)

One of my favorite teachers at St. Hugo’s Grade School was Sr. Mary Ellen Keyes. She was always “gracious and friendly” and it was hard to tell when or if she was ever having a bad day. She had a deep peace in her heart and her joy was contagious. She brightened the atmosphere with her positive outlook and she made the harsh Michigan winters and the long school days more bearable with her kindness and little acts of love. She had an intuition of my vocation and prayed for me everyday…I only found this out later after I joined the seminary. What a great nun!!
