And there we were: three girl missionaries with great ideas at Home Depot wracking our brains to figure out what to buy and how to build it. Wood, nails, hammers, 2X4s, sawhorses and more. The goal: make a booth that looks like a missionary construction site – complete with a cross, of course. After a few hours, we were able to figure it out and we arrived at the convention center. We were making our Mission Youth booth for the National Catholic Youth Conference: “Called to Glory” in Indianapolis.
The exhibition hall doors opened and the youth began flooding in to make their way around to the booths. Our cross was not ready, so the kids were just passing by. Finally, our cross was up… Again we witness the triumph of the cross. Within minutes, it was covered with notes to Jesus that they had written as he opened their hearts. Tons of young people had expressed their interest in missionary work. We pray that soon they will all be able “to write their story”.
Three days. Over 23,000 young people together. The Church is alive. And not only alive, but full of vibrant young hearts. We are blessed that Mission Youth can be a way to channel all that youthful enthusiasm.
At the National Catholic Youth Conference Mission Youth was able to wright a story… Every Mission Has a Story, what will yours be?
