Loving Your Enemies

“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.”

To an authentic Christian these words must ring true.

It can be hard to faithfully heed this command,

But possible, if you build on rock and not sand.

It’s easy to avoid those who can cause us pain,

Just as some avoid playing outside in the rain.

God respects our freedom, and won’t force us to act,

But he creates occasions to love with great tact.

Often we can only see the thorns in the rose,

But there is a diamond in the rough of your foes.

Christ loves them intensely, for them he gave his life.

He asks us to love them in spite of all the strife.
