Tonight the President will deliver his State of the Union message. I expect we will hear about how he plans to meet the many social, economic, military and educational challenges facing our nation. It likely will be a very long speech.
Unfortunately, there is one vital topic that will be sorely neglected. So, I offer it here in the words I can only pray the President would include in his address:
My fellow Americans, tonight I will speak to you about many challenges facing our great nation. But I want to start by thanking the brave and dedicated souls who earlier this week marched in our streets in favor of the sanctity of life. They are true American heroes and it is the patriotic and moral duty of all Americans to join with them in halting the plague of death that has befallen our nation since the horrendous Supreme Court decision, Roe V. Wade.
Since that misguided court ruling, more than a million unborn Americans have been killed each year. And who knows the great future doctors, scientists, teachers, philosophers, artists, musicians and moral leaders that we have allowed to perish, that we have deprived of the basic right to human life.
There was a time in this nation when slavery was legal. There was a time when women were denied the vote. And the time has come to end the time in our history when a human life can be terminated by its mother and we call it a choice.
Tomorrow, I will ask Congress for legislation prohibiting the spending of any federal money in support of organizations that promote or perform an abortion. The legislation eliminates federal funding of any nature for any hospital, clinic, health service or educational institution that performs abortions or refers people for abortions. And it will eliminate all federal funding for any state that permits abortion within its borders.
Simply put, we are going to make it a crime to commit an abortion and the penalties will be swift, sure and severe.
I know this is a dramatic shift in policy and many will be upset. But for too long those in my party have promoted a policy regarding abortion that it should be “safe, legal and rare.” It is time to end such hypocrisy. We know abortion is wrong and that is why we say it should be rare.
In addition, tomorrow I will send a proposal to Congress that would fund a pro-life educational program at all our nation’s medical schools. I intend to make sure that every doctor entering the medical profession understands that performing an abortion violates our moral beliefs and is unacceptable in a civilized nation.
I will not rest until I know in my heart that every child conceived in this great nation will have the opportunity for life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
As I said at the beginning, I don’t expect these words to be in the State of the Union address. But I pray that there will come a President who will speak words something like these. And the laughter of a million babies will fill our ears.
Policies on sex education vary from state to state. The preoblm with allowing parents to opt their kids out of the sex ed class is that those are often the students who need it most, and when they get pregnant, society often bears the cost of raising the children, through various kinds of aid, food stamps, etc. Teens who have babies aren’t able to get the education and training they need to support their children. It’s a societal preoblm.A study years ago showed that when parents are the most adamant about their kids having sex (threatening to throw them out of the house, etc.), the kids are MORE likely to get pregnant. When kids have knowledge about sex AND information about the futures they can expect with and without children, they are more likely to take steps to avoid pregnancy.I agree that reducing unwanted pregnancies is the best way to reduce abortions.
