“In a world where there is so much noise, so much bewilderment, there is a need for silent adoration of Jesus concealed in the Host. Be assiduous in the prayer of adoration and teach it to the faithful. It is a source of comfort and light, particularly to those who are suffering.” (Pope Benedict XVI, March 2, 2006)
I am always amazed to see the multitude of cars on the DC beltway every day. Most folks in this town start early and finish late, and I often wonder how much time they are dedicating to prayer. Although there is nothing better than daily Mass, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and regular Confession, these simple ideas may help as well:
- Offer up a decade of the rosary for your family…thinking of each family member as you are saying the Hail Mary’s. (5 minutes)
- Keep your Bible at work and try to read and reflect on a brief passage of the Gospel for a few moments at your desk.
- Keep a crucifix and an image of Mary on your desk as reminders of their loving presence in your life.
- Take advantage of the last few minutes of your car time to ask Jesus to help you be the loving husband or dad, wife or mom that your kids need you to be when you walk in the door.
- If possible, try to make a visit to the chapel when you drop off your kids or pick them up from school…great way to recharge the batteries.
- Try to do a brief examination of conscience before going to bed; thanking God for the gifts and victories, and apologizing for the roadblocks you may have put in his way.
- Pray with your kids or read them a Bible passage before going to bed. This is very powerful!
