Visitation clarification

We continue to read media reports of a pending visitation to the Regnum Christi Movement.  Our understanding is that the announced visitation is to the consecrated members of the Movement. In other words, the visitation will focus on the 900 or so consecrated members, not the 70,000 members of the laity.  Archbishop Blázquez, who will conduct the visitation of the consecrated, has not announced the details of his visitation plan, but the direction is clearly described in last week’s letter from Archbishop Velasio De Paolis to Legionaries and consecrated Regnum Christi members:

“3. There is also concrete information relative to the Regnum Christi Movement, particularly the consecrated members. His Excellency Ricardo Blázquez, Archbishop of Valladolid, was appointed as Visitor to the consecrated members of the Regnum Christi Movement. This visitation will be carried out under the responsibility of the papal delegate and in coordination with the responsibility he exercises over the entire Legion of Christ and the Regnum Christi Movement. The Regnum Christi Movement is a treasure that is indivisibly connected to the Legion, which should feel responsible for it and continue offering it its help. Nevertheless, this relationship must also be the object of serene reflection and it is part of the path of renewal regarding the Legion itself and its constitutions, also in relation to the members of Regnum Christi.”

You mention a membership of 70,000 in Regnum Christi. I incorporated relatively recently into a fairly small RC community, and the number 70,000 is amazing to me. Can you offer a general breakdown by region or country (ex. US, Canada, Mexico, Spain, etc.) of the RC population worldwide?

Another question, regarding the communications from the Vatican which don’t seem to take into account that the term “Regnum Christi” includes a very large population of members as well as RC consecrated. We all assume the visitation is on the consecrated. Have the LC superiors asked for clarification from the Vatican as to the scope of the RC visitation? Thanks!!

Just to be clear, Jim, the consecrated members are also laity, are they not?

  3. Jim Fair says:

They are consecrated lay members, as opposed to just regular old lay folk like me.
