“We are all in the same boat, in a stormy sea, and we owe each other a terrible loyalty.” (G.K. Chesterton)
One of the ladies in a very poor village in El Salvador told me as we were walking up and down a mountainous path, “Fr. Michael, we have so little but we all support each other. If someone needs medical assistance or food, we share our medicine and our food. If someone’s house is flooded during the rainy season, we all make room in our cramped little huts for those families. If a person is sick or dying, we will make sure they receive communion and if necessary, we will find a priest for Anointing of the Sick. We are one big family, Fr. Michael, and this is how we survive.”
