Magnanimity of spirit

“Each person, in some way is called to work for the common good, constantly looking out for the good of others as if it were his own.”  (Blessed Pope John Paul II)

Every other year, Blessed Pope John Paul II would celebrate a “mini” World Youth Day in St. Peter’s.   One year, I organized a group of Italian High School kids to go with me and although we arrived 2 hours early, Paul VI auditorium was completely filled and they began to put up big screens for the overflow crowd….my kids were really let down and not happy.   At that moment, the Pope drove by in his popemobile, noticed the crowd and the big screens and asked for a microphone.   He asked, “Do all of you want to go inside?” They responded loudly, “si, si!!”

(Yes!!)  The Pope said, “Don’t worry, I will talk with the security guards and we will all go inside…it may be a little crowded, and some of you may have to sit in the aisles, but we will make it work!!”

Blessed Pope John Paul II was always attentive to details…so many details, and this showed the great magnanimity of his spirit.
