Making mud pies in a slum

“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” CS Lewis

Shopping, dinner parties, concerts, professional ball games, golf, travels,…with moderation are fine. But our soul needs to rest, and it needs to rest in God. This is the deepest consolation that we are all longing for…we can taste it now on earth through our sacramental life and personal prayer with Jesus, and in heaven, we will reach the absolute plenitude of this joy.
