More from Marial in Mexico

After being in our village for only two days, we can’t believe that it is already time to say good-bye and be off to our next mission within our mission trip.

We started our day with morning prayer and a typical Mexican breakfast called “chilaquiles” and then our ride came to take us to our work site.  Jumping off the truck, we soon got down to business:  painting the washroom, building walls for the kitchen, and picking rocks to help level the area outside the washroom.  And just as we began working, a second truckload of people arrived:  the women and the children!  Today is a day off of school for the kids and so it was really a treat to get to work with the entire extended family again today.

We enjoyed seeing Amanda learn to make tamales with the women; Gil and Joseph were able to get a great start on the walls of the kitchen (even managing to explain all their ideas to the Mexican men who they were working with); Ana and Lily made friends with some of the kids who enjoyed exploring the cenote with them; everyone who wanted had a turn on the zip line; and one of the most fun things was celebrating Fr. Steve’s birthday with the family.

They managed to make Father a special “tres leches” cake and sang him the typical Mexican Happy birthday songs, one of which included a part where each person gives him a hug!

After only two days here and a large language barrier, we are astounded at the depth of relationship we have been able to attain with them.

Since our wifi signal is very weak here, we are only going to try to send one picture of our entire group, but hopefully we can send a few others later in the week.

Tomorrow we have a day of outing before we return to the City of Joy.
