Mother is there for us

Our Lady of Guadalupe promised: Do not fear — am I not here, who am your mother?  Her words have been my consolation today in a very special way.

As you may know, I have been n Haiti for the past three days on a scouting mission, searching for new places to serve. Well, future Mission Youth missionaries get ready — we have found amazing places: a school with palms trees as doors, clinics for mentally and severely disabled children, a house for dying elderly, nutrition center filled with boy babies… The list goes on and on.

But today something special happened. As soon as we were leaving the guest house an older man approached me. Where are you going? Before I even answered he was already decided to join us and there he was seating in the front seat of our 4×4 white SUV.

I got to know him during the three-hour drive. Doc. John is a 70-year-old Baptist, a retired doctor who met Jesus in 2003 and changed the course of his life.

So there we were two consecrated women with a Baptist doctor exploring Haiti. Little did we know that Mary, as a good mother, was guiding the way and we found “angles” during the day that made the trip more fruitful. Francesca, another Baptist, is the owner of a restaurant who agreed to help with future missions. A taxi driver helped us find our way.

My reflexion? One God, One Faith, One baptism and why not One Mother of us all, who never leaves us alone and will always guide our way and put the right people in our path.

At the end of the day, back at the guest house Doc. John said to us: “thank you for an amazing day with two wonderful young ladies, two lay consecrated women! I got it right”. He had been practicing to tell his wife. The important note to mention, Doc. John was not catholic, so today was a special day for Him. We never know what God has in store; we just need to let Him work through us and He will do the rest. And not to worry — we have a Mother up there who says: Do not fear, am I not here, who am your mother!
