Little Acts

A few days ago, a brother who had been out came back. When he came in, one brother had already saved him a clean cloth napkin and pulled it out for him. (For those who don’t know, we use cloth napkins that we wash once a week.)

Another time, our table was out of strawberries and a brother was itching to have a few more. As the community got up, another brother found one of the few bowls of strawberries left and brought it to him.

A few weeks back, I was reminiscing with another brother about our engineering studies – I’m not the only gear-head in the Legion. As we were commenting I was using percentages for marks while he mentioned them as a number out of ten since that’s how they do it in his country. As we kept talking, he silently started converting his marks to percentages.

These little acts of charity make our life that much more enjoyable. The Gospel asks us to find Christ in the poor, the lame, the homeless, and the imprisoned. Charity helps us find him in those beside us first.

About Fr Matthew P. Schneider, LC

In 2001, I traveled from Calgary, Canada to join the Legion. Since then I’ve been all over North America and spent some time in Rome. I currently reside in Washington doing a bunch of writing and taking care of the community while studying my Licentiate in Theology (between Masters and Doctorate). I’m most well-known on Instagram and Twitter where I have about 6,500 and 40,000 followers respectively.
