A new tie to friendship

“A quarrel between friends, when made up, adds a new tie to friendship, as experience shows that the callosity formed around a broken bone makes it stronger than before.” (St. Francis de Sales)

During my High School days, we would often organize a basketball game on Sunday afternoons at the Brother Rice High School gym. One of my friends and I would usually cover each other “man to man”, and at times it became very intense. After losing 3 consecutive close games to his team one day, and taking a few elbows in the face, I said a few unnecessary words to him and huffed down the hallway to our chapel. I was really upset and needed some peace from Christ. A few minutes later, my friend walked in the chapel and prayed…as we walked out, he apologized for the rough hits during the game, and without doubt our friendship had just been strengthened.
