THE OTHER SIDE OF SPRING BREAK

For the next few days, consecrated woman Paola Trevino will report from Haiti, where she is leading a group of 13 young missionaries.

For some the day began at 4:00 am; for others, even the night before… Finally at 5:00 pm the group of 13 missionaries was complete, everyone jumped in the “tip-tap” (a truck with a fence around the bed and you ride in the bed –- these are the busses of Haiti), and the adventure began.

For me, a consecrated person that left country, family, and career, to see 13 young women giving their Spring Break to serve others is a real gift – worth all my effort.

Just to give you a heads up, we will be here in Port Au Prince for a week, serving at the Malnourished Children’s Hospital of the Missionaries of Charity.  I will try to send you a “snapshot” of the mission trip every day, so you can be a part of it. Just to warm your heart, these are some of the reasons why our missionaries came:

-to have a new experience

-because it is God’s will for me, and I don’t know why, so I’m here to listen to him

-to figure out why I’m here, because I don’t know yet!

-because I realized how much God has given me, and I have taken it for granted, and now I want to give something back to him

-to figure out what real happiness is

-because God asked me to do something for him and to learn to be less materialistic

-because I want to serve

-because I want to help the people of Haiti

-because my life has been very focused on myself, and I want to let go of me

-because my little sister is adopted from Guatemala and I’ve always wanted to understand the circumstances she comes from and to give my love to other kids like her

-because my confirmation saint is Mother Teresa, and I wanted to learn more about her working with the Missionaries of Charity

Who said that young people are not on fire? Mission Youth has done the work of bringing them here; now it is Christ’s turn.

Please pray for us!
