Why am I?

“Let us keep before our eyes this great thought- everything in this world comes to an end, whether it be prosperity or adversity. Eternity alone never ends.” (St. Alfonsus Ligouri)

I recently had dinner with several families and we had a conversation about the “meaning of life.” An older couple was hosting this dinner for their daughter and son and their respective spouses…and as we were eating our dessert, the dad mentioned that he had just purchased a new license plate. It read “Why am I?” He wanted to provoke some thought on the DC beltway…and this is so needed!!

Are we just checking off the boxes and getting caught up in the superficialities of the world…or are we living with Christ, for Christ and with the desire to share Christ with others? Success, fame and fortune are fine in themselves, but we need to remember the why!
