Whenever I speak with my mom, either in person or on the phone, I sense that she is fully engaged. She is going deeper into the conversation than my mere words, and she can perceive my feelings and emotions connected to the topic and what I might be trying to say without finding the words to say it. She is 100% there, trying to give the best of herself to our limited time together.
